LSS 5.6.4: Autodiscontinue

Overview: Force medication prescribed for limited course to automatically discontinue when completed.

Location: Medications screen under Orders in AOM (ambulatory order management) in a patient's EAR.


When a medication will only be used for a defined period of time, such as  course of antibiotics, then the prescription should be entered as an autodiscontinue prescription, so the prescription will automatically fall off the active medication list after the course of therapy is completed.

To do this, enter the quantity to be dispensed in the days to be dispensed and not the quantity, so the prescription will automatically discontinue after the appropriate number of days.  Enter AD in the Refill column.

Then save the prescription as usual.
